Call for autistic girls to be supported in post-covid return to school

Date Time Call for autistic girls to be supported in post-covid return to school To mark UN Autism Awareness Day on Friday April 2, researchers are calling for the needs of autistic girls to be better supported during the transition back to secondary school after the coronavirus lockdown. Until recently, autism was thought to affect many more boys than girls – however, this gap has begun to close in recent years, and the ratio is now thought to be one girl for every three boys. Recent figures indicate that 21% of autistic pupils in English schools are girls. Although the needs of autistic girls and boys are similar, there are also some important differences. When compared to autistic boys, girls tend to be more anxious, be more motivated to make friends, and mask their difficulties by demonstrating better social communication and interaction skills.

Published by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Bangkok, the booklet is designed to support Member States in formulating education policies and strategies on MIL that respond to the current MIL trends and challenges identified in the research. In particular, it seeks to shed light on the factors affecting the overall policies and practices of each count

Scaling Up Public Health Interventions: Case Study of the Polio Immunization Program in Indonesia

The polio immunization program must be owned by local stakeholders and decision makers. The frameworks for scaling up public health interventions - for transforming health research interventions into pathways towards achieving development goals - are diverse. Examples of elements of such frameworks include: leadership responsibility, packaging of new ideas, communication, social system strengthening, measurement and feedback, and knowledge management. This paper investigates the process, actors, and contexts of polio immunisation scaling up in Indonesia from 1988 to 2018. The researchers carried out a quantitative survey of 323 actors involved in the polio programme at national and sub-national levels, followed by key informant interviews (KIIs) and a document review (to construct a timeline of the polio eradication programme, with milestones). All data were collected between June 2018 and March 2019.
